Summary: | This thesis is a study on literature which reveals the value of life carried on in the studied work of art. In particular, the object of the study here is Oscar Wilde’s short-story intitled The Happy Prince. The main purpose of the writer in this case is to know the theme and the messages of the story by analyzing the conflict of the two major characters of the story, the Happy Prince and the Swallow. The theory used hereby is the objective theory of M.H.Abrams in his The Mirror and the Lamp, and the approach used here is the intrinsic approach because the writes focuses the analysis on the literary work itself and regards the story as the object of study and analyzes it through the intrinsic elements. This study is also a product of library research and the method chosen here is the descriptive method. |
