Summary:The existence of proper ideas is very important in writing an essay. Unfortunately, it could not always be expressed out. Moreover, for students of writing, who often get difficulty in finding and exploring ideas, which actually, have been in their minds. A technique of prewriting recommended by the experts might be a solution to this problem. It is brainstorming technique. According to Goldman and Hirsch (1986:39), in brainstorming activity the students can use lists, notes or diagrams to express their ideas freely without concerning with any rule of writing. This technique then, according to Raimes (1983:12-14), becomes a process of discovery of new ideas and new language forms to express those ideas for the students.
