Description
Summary:Background. Diabetes mellitus is a disease in which the body cannot properly convert food into energy, either because it does not produce enough insulin, or because the cells become insulin-resistant or incapable of absorbing it. Insulin which is a hormone produced by the pancreas, regulates the level of glucose in the bloodstream. Morinda ctrifolia leaves which consist of flavonoid, saponin, and tannin have antioxidant activity against diabetes. Purpose. The aim of this research is to know the pharmalogical effect of Morinda citrifolia leaves on mice induced streptozotocin. Method. The mices were randomly del'ided into five groups, there are group 1 (mices were induced by streptozotocin and given Morinda citrifolia infusion 10%), group 2 (mices were induced by streptozotocin and given Morinda citrifolia infusion 20%), group 3 (mices were induced by streptozotocin and given Morinda citrifolia infusion 40%), positive control group (mices were induced by streptozotocin and given aquades), and negative control group (mices were injected by normal saline and given. aquades). Streptozotocin was injected as single dose 50mglkg intraperitoneal/y. Morinda citrifolia leaves infusion was given orally at dose 10%, 20%, and 40% in seven days once per day. Result There were significant differences between groups that be given with Morinda citrifolia leaves infusion 10%, 20%, and 40% compared with positive control group (p<0,05). Conclusion. Morinda citrifolia leaves infusion have an effect on blood glucose decreasing of mice induced streptozotocin.
