Estrogen receptors examination has been proved to be applicable for estimating patient's response against hormonal therapy. Estrogen receptors are prerequisite for a breast carcinoma cell of "infiltrating ductal not otherwise specified (NOS) '1 type that may incite response against hormonal manipulation. Patients with positive Estrogen receptors showed a better prognosis than those with the negative ones. Thus, immunohistochemical Estrogen receptors examination of breast carcinoma of infiltrating ductal NOS type, in addition to provide estimation of response against endocrine therapy, may also determine the prognosis in the course of the disease. The study used Avidin Biotin Complex to examine the inimunohistochemistry of Estrogen receptors. The examination was done with and without microwave to find the number of Estrogen receptors in breast carcinoma of infiltrating ductal NOS type. Method used was observational study with cross sectional design, Data were analysed using paired t lest analysis. Samples were taken from Department of Anatomic Pathology, Airiangga University School of Medicine, Or. Soetomo hospital, that had been diagnosed as breast carcinoma of infiltrating ductal NOS type. It is followed by examination of Estrogen receptors imrnunohistochemistry with and without microwave. The study was done in Department of Anatomic Pathology from March 1998 to September 1998 using 33 samples. This study found an increase of the number of Estrogen receptors in breast carcinoma of infiltrating ductal NOS type and rapid time. Immunohistochemical examination with microwave showed significant difference than the examination without microwave ( p < 0,05), that there are more numbers of Estrogen receptors in the nucleus, and requires rapid time.
