Summary:This research was aimed to determine the role of pentoxifylline or vitamin E (a-tocopherol) on motility and viability of Ettawah's offspring goat sperrnatozoa after chilled and frozen storages. The motility was measured in persentage of progressive spermatozoa in the population, and the viability included life spermatozoa incubated in 27°C after warmed-up for chilled and thawed for frozen sperm. The sample were sperm of Ettawah's offspring goat by around of 2,5 years of age. The sperm was collected by Electro-ejaculator 10 volts 5 A. Five replications were performed for every treatment (control, pentoxifylline = PF, vitamin E = VE and the combination of PF + VE) either which were added before or after chilled and frozen storages. Research method was true experimental which conducted in laboratory. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in factorial 2 x 2 x 4 was performed in this research to determine the role of independent variables (antioxidant type, time of adding and storage method) on dependent variables (motility and viability of spermatozoa). Analysis of variance (Anova) was applied for hypothesis test. The analysis then continoued to Duncan Multiple Range Test to compared the main effect of each antioxidant and t-test to investigated the interaction effect between factors by significance level of 0.05 and 0.01. The analysis results indicated that pentoxifylline (PF) had have the best role on induced the spermatozoa motility , compared with controll (K), vitamin E (VE) and PF + VE (P < 0.01), if it is added after storage. But, PF + VE was the best one and very significant difference (P < 0.01), if it are added before storage. The other information, that viability of spermatozoa had the longest time when incubated in PF + VE compared with PF, K and VE by averages of 138 : 136.5, 135 and 103 minutes respectively. Adding of VE to sperm dilution should be better done before storage than after storage. The pentoxifylline was very supported on increasing of spermatozoa motility and viability, so that the combination of this drug with vitamin E had have more special meaning. By the way adding of vitamin E only may decrease of motility, although may increased viability especially on chilled storaging.
