| Summary: | The patients within palliative care will experience kinds of psychological responses that affected by family support and types of personality, i.e., extrovert and introvert which could improve their quality of life, The objectives of this study were to identify correlation of family support and types of personality to psychological responses in patient of palliative care.
This study used cross-sectional design. Population was palliative care patient at Balongsari Governmental Clinic, Surabaya. Sample size was 17 individuals, recruited by using purposive sampling. Data were collected by using questionnaires, comprising demographic data, family support, types of personality, psychological responses, and analyze by means of Spearman's Rho and Fisher's Exact non-parametric statistic test with significance level of p<0,05.
The result of this study showed that psychological responses was high in 76% and moderate in 24%. There was 88% of the respondents have better family support and 12% of the respondents have enough family support. There was 41% of the respondents had introvert type of personality and 59% had extrovert type of personality. The result of Spearman's Rho correlation test with p=0,004 and con-elation coefficient (rs)=0,958, it indicated a significant con-elation between family support and psychological responses. And the results of Fisher's Exact con-elation test with p=0,015 and contingency coefficient=0,553, it indicated a significant correlation between types of personality (extrovert and introvert) and psychological responses.
It can be concluded from this study that there was correlation between family support and psychological responses in palliative care patient, and there was also correlation between types of personality (extrovert and introvert) and psychological responses in palliative care patient. Further studies should search other factors of psychological responses in palliative care patient. |
