The emphasis in the principles of brief interventions for weight management is just like to prevention and health promotion. It is in line with the nursing theory by Betty Neuman was intended to maintain the line of defense against anything of health threatens and it was focused on health promotion and prevention interventions. This study was aimed to analyze the influence of brief interventions for weight management towards self efficacy on diet and exercise in overweight and obesity patient.
This study was used pre experimental pre-post test design. The population was all overweight and obesity patient who daily exercise in Vertical Gym Fitness Center, Surabaya. The sample was recruited by using purposive sampling. Total sample was 20 respondents, taken according to inclusion criteria. The independent variable was brief interventions for weight management and the dependent variables were self efficacy on diet and exercise in overweight and obesity patient. Data were collected by using two quetionnaire instruments consist of exercise self efficacy scale (ESES) had combined self efficacy to regulate exercise questionnaire and then self efficacy to regulate eating habits questionnaire by Albert Bandura. Data was analyzed by wilcoxon signed rank test with significance level of p < 0,05.
Result showed that interventions not influenced to self efficacy on diet (p=0,083) but interventions influenced to self efficacy on exercise (p=0,014). It can be concluded that brief interventions for weight management had influenced to self efficacy on exercise in overweight and obesity patient but has not influenced to self efficacy on diet. The interventions was based on self efficacy and it was used in management theory is effective in dealing with obstacles in the persistence and increasing of skills. Further study should identify and analyze the self efficacy on diet and exercise in overweight and obesity patient both in children, adolescents, adults and elderly by providing brief interventions for weight management make in a groups based on family center care. |
