Summary:Parenting style is the parent’s attitude that applied to their children and relatively consistent. The parenting style are democratic style, authoritarian style and permissive style. Social competencies development is the ability having teenagers to interaction and socialize with the others. Social competencies development included the social knowledge, empathy,and self confidence. The purpose of this study are explain correlation between parenting style and teenager’s social competenciesdevelopment. This study was cross sectional design. It was done at SMP Negeri 20 Surabaya. The sample were 146 respondent who 12-14 years old. Data were collected by using structured questionnaires with multiple choice. Data were analyzed by using chi-square with level of significance α ≤ 0,05. The significant level of parenting style was p = 0,000 and the significant level of teenager’s social competencies development was p = 0,000. The study concluded that parenting style has correlation with teenager’s social competencies development. The study proved that democratic style was strongly supporting the forming of teenager’s social competencies development.
