This study used descriptive design with cross-sectional type. The population of this study were all nurses and leprosy patients at Melati Room, Leprosy Hospital, Sumberglagah. The samples were obtained through purposive sampling, comprising eight nurses, 18 patients, and one functional task force coordinator. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that there was no correlation between nursing education and patients' independence (p = 0.410). There was no correlation between nurse's knowledge and patient's independence (p = 0.167) and there was no relationship between duration of employment and patient's independence (p = 0.66). Patient education was found to have correlation with independence (p = 0.036), there was correlation between knowledge and independence (p = 0.015), and there was also correlation between family support and independence (p = 0.015). In conclusion, there is no correlation between education, knowledge, and the length of nurse employment with the independence of patients, while there is correlation between education, knowledge and support for patient's families with selfcare independence.
