Summary:Mental retardation is a developmental disorder characterized by a significantly below-average intelligence and an inability to function in and adapt to daily life without assistance. The study was aimed to analyze factors related to independence of children with mental retardation in doing activity of daily living (ADL) in SDLB Negeri Kutorejo 4 Pandaan. This study used cross sectional design. The population was chidren with mental retardation in SDLB Negeri Kutorejo 4 Pandaan and their parents. Total sample was 20 respondents, enrolled using purposive sample method. The independent variables in this research were personality type, parenting style and family support and dependent variable was independence in doing activity of daily living (ADL). Data were collected using questionaire and observation, and were analyzed by Chi Square Test and Spearman’s Rho Test with signifikan level p≤0,05. The result showed that independence in doing ADL in children with mental retardation had significant correlation with parenting style (p=0,016) and family support (p=0,048). Personality type has no correlation with independence in doing ADL in children with mental retardation. It can be concluded that democratic parenting style and good family support were related to independence in doing ADL in children with mental retardation. Further studies should analyze factors related to motivation of study in children with mental retardation involve reprasentative respondents and better
