Summary: | One of the factors that affect the level of production of freshwater giant prawns(Macrobrachiumrosenbergii) is
the presence of disease in spite of the addition of the optimum nutritional needs for growth. Bad environment,
such as the extreme fluctuations in water quality can lead to stresss shrimp and shrimp become susceptible to
disease. Gracilaria verrucosa is a type of red algae seaweed that can be used as an immunostimulant. This study
aims to determine the effect of the addition extracts of Gracilaria verrucosa to the increase in total hemocytes
count, the survival rate and physiological responses of prawns after exposure to high temperatures. The
treatment given is the addition of Gracilaria extract in the diet at doses of 0%, 1%, 2%, 3% and 4%. This
research used experimental method with completely randomized design (CRD). The prawns used 7 cm with
density 10 fish per aquarium 40x30x30 cm. Addition ofGracilaria extract was conducted for 14 days and then
continued stresss test in temperatureon day 15. The highest total hemocytes count obtained in additional
Gracilaria extract at dose 3% which is 38.49 x 106 cells / ml compared to other treatments and were
significantly different (P <0.05) to control. The survival rate showed were not significantly different (P> 0.05),
while the physiological responses of prawns after stresss test showed that the addition of Gracilaria extract
showed good feed response and normally swim in 18hours while the control on 24 and 30 hours post-stresss
test respectively. |
