Description
Summary:High incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in Surabaya, particulary in special endemic areas, indicates lack of knowledge as well as negative attitude of the community on the prevention of DHF. According to the data in Health Office, from January to March 2009 there was 200 cases of DHF incidence, while the data in community health center, Pacarkeling, in 2008 there were 35 incidences, and from January to March 2009 there were 17 DHF patients. This descriptive study was performed, in the area of Kelurahan Pacarkembang, RT 9 RW 7, involing 54 randomly selected samples recruited using porpusive sampling. This study employed history-taking, questionnaire distribution, and data tabulation. Data showed that those with adequate knowledge were 15 (27.8%) individuals, moderate 10 (18.5%) individuals, and less 29 (53.7%) individuals. Those with positive attitude were 5 (9.3%), neutral 16 (29.6%), and negative 33 (66.1%) individuals. It was apparent that the level of knowledge remained less and negative attitude of the community on DHF prevention efforts remained high, while more adequate knowledge and positive attitude should have been suppressed DHF incidence rate.
