This study intends to discover the similarities and differences between characters' vision of life, Devavrata in C.Rajagopalachari's Mahabharata and Gandalf in J.R.R Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings. In this study, the writer uses American Comparative study as an approach theory supported with Intertextuality to finds the similarities between both of characters, and as a method of study to reveals the relationship between characters. This study will observe the characters and plots to discover the differences and the similarities between both visions of characters. In this study the writer shows the comparison both stories' cultural term such as dharma versus virtue, Kshatriya versus hero, and reincarnation versus resurrection. By knowing the similarities and differences from both characters' vision of life, the readers will have a view to understand the differences and similarities in both west and east people vision of life. In this study the writer finds several similarities and differences in both characters vision of life. The writer also attaches some table to make an easier way to understanding the similarities and differences from both characters.
