Description
Summary:Clinically, regular hemodialysis is regarded as effective if the patient's general condition and nutrition are satisfactory, no uremic manifestations and there are efforts to rehabilitate the patients to recover their activities as those before undergoing hemodialysis. As there are frequent complaints during and after dialysis therapy using dialyzer reuse, such as chilling, nausea, and vomiting, this study tried to investigate the effect of dialyzer reuse on the hemodialysis effectiveness. This study was a pre-experimental one group pre- and posttest only design, with sample size of 28 respondents enrolled using non-probability consecutive sampling technique. Data were collected using observation to the results of laboratory examination to pre- and post hemodialytic BUN decrease, in Reuse 1, Reuse 2, and Reuse 3. The results were subsequently analyzed with one way Anova and t-test. Results of one way An ova statistical test revealed that estimated f value was less than f-table value (3.13 for numerator and 83 for denominator, a = 0.05) and significance value higher than 0.05. It can be concluded that there was no significant difference of dialyzer reuse in hemodialysis effectiveness. T -test revealed that reuse 1-Reuse (0.52 for df = 27 and a= 0.05), and the significance (2-tailed) was > 0.05 . As a conclusion, there was no significant difference between Reuse 1, Reuse 2, and Reuse 3. This study demonstrates the need of improvement of facilities and equipment for dialyzer reuse, including the improvement of knowledge and professionalism of the nurses, particularly they who involve directly in the process of hemodialytic dialyzer reuse to obtain a better dialysis quality as well as increased comfortability and safety of the patients.
