Summary:"Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) are at high risk for contracting Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs). The incidence of STIs in sex workers is still very high. This results from several factors, among others, lack of CSWs' knowledge about STIs prevention, poor attitude and behavior of the sex workers in preventing STIs, and lack of support from the environment. Interventions provided through health education using FGD is expected to improve knowledge, attitude and behavior of sex workers in preventing STIs. This study was pre-experimnetal using pre test-post test design. The population in this study was Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) who were in localization Gembol Semarang. The sample numbered to 12 individuals, taken by purposive sampling method. The independent variable was health education with the method Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and the dependent variables were knowledge, attitudes and actions of the CSWs. Data were collected by questionnaire. The results were tested with Wicoxon Signed Rank Test statistical test. The assigned value was < 0.05. The results showed there was the effect of health education with the method of Focus Group Discussion on knowledge, attitudes and actions of the CSWs. FGD methods could improve knowledge (p = 0.001), attitude (p = 0.002) and action (p = 0.001). It can be concluded that there are effects of health education using FGD method on knowledge, attitudes and actions of the CSWs. Further the research are recomended to improve health education among Commercial Sex Workers with acceptable, attractive and easy method."
