Summary: | "Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) are at high risk for contracting Sexually
Transmitted Infections (STIs). The incidence of STIs in sex workers is still very
high. This results from several factors, among others, lack of CSWs' knowledge
about STIs prevention, poor attitude and behavior of the sex workers in preventing
STIs, and lack of support from the environment. Interventions provided through
health education using FGD is expected to improve knowledge, attitude and
behavior of sex workers in preventing STIs.
This study was pre-experimnetal using pre test-post test design. The
population in this study was Commercial Sex Workers (CSWs) who were in
localization Gembol Semarang. The sample numbered to 12 individuals, taken by
purposive sampling method. The independent variable was health education with
the method Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and the dependent variables were
knowledge, attitudes and actions of the CSWs. Data were collected by
questionnaire. The results were tested with Wicoxon Signed Rank Test statistical
test. The assigned value was < 0.05.
The results showed there was the effect of health education with the
method of Focus Group Discussion on knowledge, attitudes and actions of the
CSWs. FGD methods could improve knowledge (p = 0.001), attitude (p = 0.002)
and action (p = 0.001).
It can be concluded that there are effects of health education using FGD
method on knowledge, attitudes and actions of the CSWs. Further the research are
recomended to improve health education among Commercial Sex Workers with
acceptable, attractive and easy method." |
