Summary:The sick infants who cared in the hospital have a lot of stressor cause of the noises of the environmental, painful and uncomfortable. Hospitalization is a process of for some reason, by planning or emergency, the children must stay in the hospital, getting therapy and nursing care until they return home. That condition can lead to a crisis caused by environmental change. The stress of the infants is showed by the increasing of cortisol levels and decreasing of their sleep quantity. Kolcaba states that caring for comfort need three types of comfort interventions, one of them is food comfort, it for the soul this include therapy for psychological comfort such as massage, guided imagery, music therapy, remembering and others The purpose of this research is to prove the effict of infant massage in reducing cortisol levels and increasing sleep quantity of infant who hospitalize in Marwah ward jii1 floor of RSU Haji Surabaya. This type of research is an experimental pre-test and post-test control group design. The samples were some infants with diarrhea who hospitalized in Marwah ward r Floor of RSU Haj; Surabaya in May 2013 with amount 20 respondents (10 respondents as treated group and 10 respondents as control group). Infant massage performed by a therapist on treated group. Collecting data use observation sheet. Analysis of bivariate t test used to prove there are differences in cortisol levels and sleep quantity of infant before and after giving infant massage use significance level 5% (a = 0,05). The results showed that salivary cortisol in the treated group had decreased significantly. T test showed p = 0.01, which means there is an effect of infant massage on decreasing salivary cortisol levels in treated group and t test for sleep quantity of infants showed p = 0.004, which means there is effect of infant massage on increasing sleep quantity of hospitalize infants in Marwah ward r floor of RSU Haji Surabaya. The conclusion of this research shows that infant massage have effect in decreasing cortisol levels and improve sleep quantity of hospitalize infants in Marwah ward:rI floor of RSU Haji Surabaya. However, further research which is needs to be developed is how to make a good model for infont massage that appropriate and effective in reducing stress of hospitalize infants.
