Prevention of cruelty to animals The low yield and quality of crude oil extracted traditionally from shark liver by most farmers at rural region become the main hinderance in its development as raw material for the production of high quality oil. Under such circumstances, the use of crude proteolytic enzymes namely Papain and Bromelain optimum condition were studied plant under Shark liver containing 25 % (w/w) salt, h}drolyzed ~Y 16 % (w/w) crude Papain at pH level of 7, incubated at 45 C for 24 hours, showed the best result. The yield of oil was 65. 77 % , squalene 69. 27 % , peroxide v·alue 5. 66 neg/kg, free fatty acid 0.10 %, water content 7.48 %, linoleic acid 1.15 %, linolenic acid 0.43 %, arachidonic acid 0.00 % and vitamin A 8.050 IU/g. Further study indicated that the addition of 30 % (w/w) salt on shark liver mixed with 24 % (w/w) grude Bromelain enzyoe at pH level of 6 and incubated at 55 C for 24 hours could produce 82.89 % oil, squalene 77.48 %, peroxide value 6.65 m~q/kg, free fatty acid 0.16 %, water content 5.41 %, linoleic acid 1.66 %, linolenic acid 0.29 %, arachidonic acid 0,48 % and vitamin A 7.040 IU/g. ThJ yield of oil extracted using traditional method (sun drying and steaming) was 70 % (w/w)and the oil consisting of squalene 69.32 %, peroxide value 9.14 meq/kg, free fatty acid 0.51 %, water content 6.32 %, linoleic acid 1.42 %, linolenic acid 0.40 %, arachidonic acid 1.43 % and vitamin A _7.240 IU/g.
