If this problems are not overcome adequately, the process of caring and healing can be inhibited. The patients will react to solve the problems caused by stressor, through a coping mechan ism. A social support, especially coming from family is needed to support a coping mechanism and lead it into an adaptive individual coping, in order to get patieJ1l·s psychological well-being and avo id depression. The research was done to identi fY family support, depression level and to analyze correlation between family support and depression level of breast cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy. ~es i gn used in this research was cross sectional that was conducted on hreast cancer patients at Surgical Oncology Outpatient Clinic Dr. Soetomo Hospital Surabaya. The population was breast cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. The sample was taken from those suitable with inclu sion criteria, with total sample 29 patients. The independent v ~riable in this research was family support. The dependent was depression level of breast cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy. Data were collected by using questionnaire. Data were then analyzed using Spearman Rho with level of significance of p=0,000 The result showed that family support had a correlation with depression level of breast cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy, with correlation coefficient r = 0,882. Depression level of breast cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy was in low level when they got a good family support. Relationship analysis showed a significant relation between family support and depression level of breast cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy. It can be concluded that the family support has correlation with depression level of breast cancer patients who underwent chemotherapy. From this result, it is suggested to keep providing and improving family support by involving family actively in caring the patients. |
