Summary: | Ability to perform cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a fundamental skill for all health workers, incl uding nurses, but the facts show that the knowledge and skills of CPR are still low. Early and repeated education about basic life support (BLS) to nursing students shown to increase student's knowledge and skills in performing CPR practice in hospitals. Appropriate learning method could be used to overcome this problem. Some examples are audio visual and demonstration. The objective of this study was to analyze the effectiveness between audio visual and demonstration learning methods of BLS to improve psychomotor and cognitive abilities of the students. This study used quasy experiment design. Population were students of 20ID students of Nursing Faculty Airlangga University whose GPA score were between 2,75-3,00. The independent variable were audio visual and demonstration learning methods, whereas the dependent variable were psycholTJ.otor and cognitive abilities of the students. Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann Whitney U Test. The result showed that audio visual and demonstration learning methods were effective in improving cognitive and psychomotor abilities of students. Audio visual was significantly effective (p = 0.020) to improve cognitive skill and (p = 0.008) to improve psychomotor skill ofBLS. Demonstration learning method was significantly effective (p = 0.023) to improve cognitive skill and (p = 0.014) to improve psychomotor skill of BLS. It can be concluded that both audio visual and demonstration learning methods are effective in improving psychomotor and cognitive abilities of the students. Nurse as educator, are expected to educate students with a more participatory methods. |
