Description
Summary:The first five years of age is a golden period for the development of a child. Emotional development at preschool age (5-6 years) is increasing. One of the factors that influence it is the family factor, especially parents. Parents have their own ways and patterns in nurturing and guiding children. The objective of this research was to study the correlation between care pattern with emotion in preschool children (5-6 years). This study used observational analytic cross-sectional design. The population in this study were mothers, fathers and children at TK Al-Hikmah, Mojo, Surabaya. Sample who met the inclusion criteria were 28 mothers, fathers and children, taken by simple random sampling. The independent variable in this study was care pattern and the dependent variable was children's emotion. Data were collected using questionnaire. Data analysis used Fisher‟s Exsac test with α = 0.05. In children who were likely to suffer from emotional problems, the proportion of mothers who implemented democratic authoritarian care pattern was higher than mothers who applied democratic care pattern and mother who implemented democratic, permissive care pattern. Statistical test obtained p = 0.677. In children who were likely to suffer from emotional problems, the proportion of fathers who applied a combination between democratic, authoritarian and permissive was higher than those who applied other care patterns. Statistical test results obtained p = 0.698. In conclusion, care pattern is not related to emotion in preschool children. Because the emotion of preschoolers tends to be unstable, educators in preschool education are expected to further enhance the development of emotional stimulation. Parents are expected to be actively looking for information about appropriate care pattern to be applied to support the emotional development of children in order to develop optimally.
