Description
Summary:Burnout syndrome is a condition experienced by many students undergoing courses in final semester. There are three dimensions that show Burnout syndrome in students, including emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and decreased self-achievement. One form of students' adaptation in facing burnout syndrome is to carry out a coping strategy. The type of coping strategy consists of problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping. This study was a correlational study using cross-sectional approach. The population were students of the Faculty of Nursing, Airlangga University. Sample were 79 respondents taken by purposive sampling. The independent variable in this study was coping strategy, while the dependent variable was burnout syndrome. Data were collected by using questionnaire and analyzed using Chi-square test with significance α = 0.05. Chi-square test showed that the coping strategy has no correlation with burnout syndrome in the dimension of emotional exhaustion (p = 0.527), depersonalization (p = 0.903), and decreased self-achievement (p = 0.621). Results of this study concluded that the coping strategy is not related to burnout syndrome in the dimensions of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and decreased self-achievement. So that, students need to prepare themselves to prevent burnout syndrome by improving both learning strategies and effective social support. Future studies need to analyze the factors that affect burnout syndrome in nursing students.
