Description
Summary:The methanol extract ofMomordica charantia Linn. Fruits was tested for its in vivo antimalarial activity using Peter's 4 day supressive test Female white mice (20-35g body weight) were infected with Plasmodium berghei intra peritoneally Vllth suspension containing 105_108 infected red blood cells taken from a donor mice with parasitemia > 20%, when parasite concentration in erythrocite reached > 1%, treatment with diluted extract was given for four consecutive days orally with doses 200, 100, 50, 25, 12.5 and I mg/kg Body Weight. Blood samples were taken to determine parasitemia level for five days and compared to non treated and chloroquine treated subjects and EDso was obtained by analysing inhibition level with probit analysis. The result showed that methanol extract of Momordica charantia Linn. has an ED50 value of 5,26182 mg/kg Body Weight against Plasmodium berghei.
