This study was conducted to analyze the effect of consumption of energy drinks on the rat kidney function using hematological, uri-nalysis and renal histopathological parameter. Rats were divided into 4 groups and get three types of energy drinks (ED1, ED2 and ED3) and water as control for 30 days. A day after treatment, the urine was collected for 24-hours. Then the rats were sacrificed and blood and kidney was taken for hematological and histopathological examination. Urinalysis results showed a decrease in urinary creatinine excretion accompanied by an increase in the ratio of albumin to creatinine in urine. Hemato-logical examination showed elevated levels of serum creatinine, whereas renal his-topathologic examination showed abnormalities in renal medulla.From this study it can be concluded that high doses of energy drink lead to impaired renal function with an increase in serum creatinine, increased excretion of albumin and abnormali-ties of histopathology picture with thickening of renal medulla. The lowest doses in this experiment caused tendency in increasing excretion of albumin.
