The destination of this observation was to get profile of generic drug prescribing at local dispensaries in North Surabaya The profile was based on the dosage form and therapeutic class of the generic drug. This observation applied the retrospective observation methode. The samples of the study were prescriptions those at least contained one generic drug which were taken from July 2002 until December 2002 at eight local dispensaries. From 18.576 sheets of prescriptions which done at local dispensaries, 5.577 sheets or about 36.45% of prescriptions contained generic drugs. And from this amount of generic drug prescription, as many as 14.695 RI that include 8.941 RI generic. Based on the dosage form of generic drug got three significant categories: tablet (58.85%), powder (18.63%), and capsule (15.18%). Based on the therapeutic class of generic drug got three significant categories: central nervous system agent (26.14%), antimicrobial (20.24%), autocoid and antiinflamation (18.98%)
