Summary:Male and female speakers use language in different ways when they communicate. Naturally, when communicating there’s a lot of unpleasant act. This kind of act is called face threatening act which cause speaker must choose a strategy which taking situation, and said event (to whom, where, what about, what for, etc) into consideration. Therefore, this paper will analyze how the form of politeness strategies is used by male and female speakers in the “Hidamari no Kanojo” movie. To examine this question, the study of Brown and Levinson (1987) about politeness principle, and the study of Searle about speech act was used. This research used descriptive qualitative method face threatening act and politeness strategies as the object. From this research, it was known that there are 48 discourses in the “Hidamari no Kanojo” movie. When doing face thretening act male speakers mostly use on record strategy, while female speakers tend to positive politeness strategy.
