Description
Summary:This research was conducted to know the seroprevalence of Avian Influenza (AI) virus subtype H5 among poultry workers at Sidoarjo traditional market. The samples were collected by drawing the blood from poultry workers of Larangan traditional market in Sidoarjo via median cubity vein. The antibody titre was measured by hemagglutination inhibition (HI) assay using H5 antigen from duck A/Dk/Indonesia/AU-78/12 (H5N1) and three kinds of red blood cells, which were horse, chicken and guinea pig. The serum samples were added by Receptor Destroying Enzyme (RDE) with 3:1 ratio (v/v) for overnight and pretreated with red blood cells 10% before hemagglutination inhibition assay was conducted. Thirteen serum samples from poultry workers were obtained and none tested positive for Avian Influenza subtype H5 virus. However, author recommend using the confirmation test, sustaining ongoing surveillance and control efforts.
