Summary: | Infant with birth weight 1500-2500 grams can lose weight up to 10% in 4-5
the first day after the birth. Infant weight 1500 grams can lose weight up to 15%
in 7-10 days first. Therefore to overcome the LBW infant (Low Birth Weight) not
much to lose weight done treatment Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). KMC was a
LBW infant care that conducted continuously in direct contact with mother and
breastfeeding. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of Kangaroo
Mother Care to the weight gain of LBW infants.
This type of research was Experimental with design that used Quasi
Experimental Design. The population in this study were all infants with LBW
treated at the NICU RSUD dr. Moh. Soewandhie Surabaya in the period on May
2th until June 10th 2017, up to 40 samples subject to inclusion criteria were then
divided into 2 groups: the experiment group and the control group.
Infants with Low Birth Weight (LBW) performed treatment of Kangaroo
Mother Care methods experienced weight gain of 54,25 grams. Analysis with
Paired t Test gave significant result of weight gain between before and after
treatment of the Kangaroo Mother Care method (p=0,00). Infants with Low Birth
Weight that is not done treatment of Kangaroo Mother Care increased weight of
29,25 grams. There is an increase significant weight as well (p=0,00). Analysis
using Independent t Test showed a significant difference of weight gain in the
group was given KMC and groups not given KMC (p=0,00).
There was significant influence of Kangaroo Mother Care to the weight
gain of LBW infants. |
