Applying qualitative approach in a bid to describe how language is produced to portray the LGBT community, the data of this study were obtained from the official website of The Jakarta Post. Two news articles published in 2016 were analyzed within the framework of Discourse Structure proposed by van Dijk (1988). It consists of two broad levels of structures descriptions which are global structures and local structure. The global structures examine the macrostructure (global topic) and the superstructure (global schema) of the news reports. The second level is the local structure or microstructure. It examines the semantic style, syntactic style, lexical style, and rhetorical style. From the analysis, this study revealed that the discourse structure contributed to the portrayal of the LGBT community in The Jakarta Post. The group is portrayed as the victim, the minority, being in unsecured and unhealthy situations that need protection. The newspaper tended to represent the voice of the minority, in this case, the LGBT community.
