value. SD Integral Luqman Al Hakim has big role in creating a generation with good
intelligence and social value as well as the dignity to Islam. The writer had great
experience during her internship in SD Integral Luqman Al Hakim.
It is not easy to teach English in Indonesia, especially if the school is not an
International school. In school, English is not compulsary subject. Thus, it is not easy to
be an English teacher, as well. The writer had so many things to learn during her
internship as an English teacher. All the knowledge that the writer got in college were
applied during the internship. It is always just a daydream when in class the lecturer told
her about teaching process. But in the internship, the writer felt the daydream become
true.
It is always interesting to have an interaction with the students, especially for the
writer herself. Having a chance to teach in Islamic fullday school has open her eyes about
the education system in Indonesia. Teaching English in SD Integral Luqman Al Hakim
for half and a month was the writer’s first time experience in teaching Islamic shool.
During the internship, the school, the other teachers and the staffs supported and helped
the writer with the problems during the internship, such as about school data or information. She got many knowledge about handling and organizing students in class
and also about delivering lessons to students.
In this school, the writer found several problems in English teaching and learning
such as the lack of attention to English as part of world language and the lack of English
teacher. The 2013 curriculum limits the schools and students to explore language
learning. BesideEnglish Drama on Student Day, there have been limited activities to
improve the English skills.
Another knowledge that the writer got during the internship was about better
knowing the characteristics of the students. The writer learned how to engage with the
students through small activity in short time. With the short internship time, the writer
had to deal with the communication skill so she could communicate well with the
students to make a good interaction. The writer learned how to deliver a lesson in front of
the class in interesting and fun ways, and the writer also learned when to be strict and
discipline to the students. These things made the writer realized that she needs many
knowledges and experiences to be the real English teacher and it needs a lot of effort.
Pressure, discipline, and appreciate’s other person idea are things that the writer learned
when having interaction with her supervisor, Mrs. Anita. Those things are the basic things
to be professional English teacher in work space.
With the experience she got during internship, the writer hopes she can improve
herself to be a better person for her future career. The writer knows that her internship
might not running perfect, but it is still full of spirit and learning. |
