Description
Summary:Ascites is the accumulation of fluid in the peritoneal cavity and one of the first decompensation signs of liver disorder. Ascites is one of the complications happened by patients with hepatic cirrhosis. The usual therapy used for ascites is diuretics, along with salt restrictions in the diet. Spironolactone and furosemide are the main pharmacological therapy for ascites. This study aims to examine the patients characteristic with hepatic cirrhosis, to examine utilization of diuretic drug using during hospitalization, and to identify the possibility of Drug Related Problem (DRP) on diuretic therapy for SH patients with ascites at Airlangga University Hospital (RSUA) Surabaya. Data was collected with time limited sampling method in the periode January 1, 2013 until March 31, 2017 Inpatient Instalation in RSUA and has been approve by ethics committee. The results on 45 patients that classificated in this study showed the most common characteristics of patients were males (53.33%), age 45-64 (75.56%), the highest complication with Hypoalbumin (26.67%) and 6-10 days as the longest treatment (46.67%). Diuretic profiles therapy were used furosemide (17.78%) and spironolactone (2.22%) as monotherapy, and also spironolactone and furosemide as combination therapy (80.00%). Furosemide was the most used in IV especially with 20mg/days (57.78%), while spironolactone was the most used in PO especially with 100mg/days (44.44%). DRP that occurs is a potential drug interaction on the use of spironolactone with potassium (24.44%).
