Summary:Medical Education is one of the most prestigious yet have high academic standard for the students; perfectionist and competitive. Based on their learning report (PHSS), the students on Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga divided into two groups; Regular Program for the students who always pass the PHSS assembly and Special Program for the students who don’t pass the PHSS assembly and need to repeat the class. Good stress management or usually called coping management needed by the students in order to manage their academic stress, so that they will not burning out. This research is studying about the coping strategy used by medical students. By knowing their coping strategy, the educators will be able to give exact treatment and counsellor for the students to maximize the students’ potency. This research is a descriptive study by observing the medical students with self report questionnaire and cross-sectional design. The questionnaire is Ways of Coping Questionnaire (WCQ) which translated into Bahasa Indonesia by Nurmayanti (2016). The sample of this research is 170 students of 7th semester of General Medical Education on Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga. This research held on 29 - 30 November 2016 in Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga. The most coping strategy used by the 7th semester of General Medical Education students on Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga is Accepting Responsibilities. While, there are similarity in two highest coping strategy: Accepting Responsibilities and Positive Reappraisal, and difference between Regular and Special Program Student in their third higher coping strategy chosen; Planful Problem Solving chosen by Regular Program Students and Self Control chosen by Special Program Students. On the other hand, there is also difference between male and female students; male tend to use Confrontative Coping and Planful Problem Solving, while female tend to use Distancing Coping dan Seeking Social-Support. Nevertheless, the dominant coping strategy used by each students were varies. That is why, personal coping strategy assessment and counsellor need to be done in order to maximize their potency. There is a difference of the third coping strategy chosen between the regular program students and special program students.
