Description
Summary:Morinda Citrifolia L. ethanol extract can be used as traditional medicine is to cure typhoid fever. While lately, many resistance cases of this Salmonella typhi bacteria against many kinds of antibiotic that usually used such as chloramphenicol, amphisillin, and tetracycline. Therefore, we decide to conduct this research. The objective of this research to find out the potential effect of antibacterial Morinda Citrifolia L. ethanol extract against Salmonella typhi bacteria. This research was a microbiology laboratory experimental which is conducted in in vitro way, by using dilution to determine the MIC and MBC, continued by streaking on NAP. The extract concentration used in this research were 2gr/ml, 1gr/ml, 0,5gr/ml, 0,25gr/ml, 0,125gr/ml, 0,0625gr/ml, 0,0312gr/ml, and 0,0156gr/ml. This experiment is replicated three times. MIC was observed by the significant alterations of solution’s turbidity after incubation at 37ºC for 24 hours. All those solutions then cultured on NAP at 37ºC for 24 hours and observed visually the growth of bacterial colonies. MIC on this research was 0,0625gr/mL meanwhile the MBC was 0,25gr/ml. In conclusion, Morinda Citrifolia L. ethanol extract has antibacterial effect against Salmonella typhi with MIC of 0,0625gr/ml and MBC of 0,25gr/ml.
