Description
Summary:Malaria is an infectious disease that caused by parasites of the Plasmodium family. Severe malaria is mainly caused by Plasmodium falciparum. The presence of resistance Plasmodiumparasite against antimalarial drugs, encourages the discovery of new chemical compounds for antimalarial agent.Exploration of medicinal plants from Balikpapan Botanical Garden has obtained Eusideroxylon zwageri, Alseodaphne elmeriandNeolitseacassiaefolia from Lauraceae family. These plants were extracted using n-hexane, dicloromethane, and methanol solvents gradually. Phytochemical screening was undertaken by TLC method on the extracts to investigate the presence of alkaloid, flavonoid, terpenoid, polifenol and antrakuinon. Antimalarial screening was performed by using ELISA-HRP II and microscopic. The results indicated that the DCM extract of Neolitsea cassiaefolia foliumshowed the highest inhibition in both ELISA-HRP II and microscopic methods with % inhibition of (73,93±1,34%) and (99,6±0,60%) respectively. The result of phytochemical screening suggested that DCM extract of Neolitseacassiaefolia folium contained terpenoid.
