Summary: | Within forensic medicine, identifications were aimed to determine someone’s
identity. One of the commonly used identifications was stature determination. Stature was
influenced by many factors, and relatively stable after growth age ended. One of body
parts that were closely correlated with stature was long bone, in such a way that stature
could be estimated from long bone measurement. This study was aimed to discover
profiles of tibial length and stature, along with correlation between percutaneous tibial
length (PCTL) and stature, as described by its linear regression equation.
This study was observational analytic study with cross sectional design. The study
was conducted in 37 samples (19-24 years olds) of male undergraduate students of
Faculty of Medicine Universitas Airlangga whom also had Javanese ethnicity. The
measured data were stature, PCTL of both legs, and cofounding data as such body
weight and exercise category of study subject. The data were normally distributed, and
were analyzed by Pearson correlation test with significance level less than 0.05
(p<0.05).
The results of study showed stature profile that increased from previous studies,
tibial length profile that was different from previous studies of different ethnicity, along
with very strong positive correlation between right PCTL and stature with r = 0.873.
Linear regression equation that was generated, Stature = 468.446+3.188*Right PCTL,
could be used to estimate male individu’s stature if supposedly only his tibia was found.
Similar correlation was also found between left PTCL and stature. In conclusion, there
was a correlation between percutaneous tibial length and stature, sustained previous
studies. |
