This antiseptic liquid or gel is commonly known as hand sanitizer. Hand sanitizer is an antiseptic substance containing 60% - 95% alcohol. In addition to alcohol, hand sanitizers also contain other antibacterial ingredients such as triclosan, glycerol, denatured alcohol or other antimicrobial materials. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of denatured alcohol 69.4% contained in the hand sanitizer as an antiseptic. Methods: This research uses true experimental design. Research was conducted in the laboratory with 10 people as volunteers. The volunteers divided into 2 groups consist of 5 people each. First group or control group using H2O to clean their hand and second group or treatment group using hand sanitizer to clean their hand. Each group put 3 fingers on agar plate before and after cleaning their hands. Each plate was incubated at 37oC overnight. After overnight incubation, the number of coloniesformed were calculated. The result was analyzed using t-test. Results: There was a significant difference between bacterial colonies before and after hand rub. Conclusion: Denatured alcohol 69.4% contained in a hand sanitizer effective for use as an antiseptic. 2017 Thesis NonPeerReviewed text id http://repository.unair.ac.id/66652/1/FK.PD.276.17%20.%20Win.e%20-%20.ABSTRAK.pdf text id http://repository.unair.ac.id/66652/2/FK.PD.276.17%20.%20Win.e%20-%20SEC.pdf I Gede Randy Winata, NIM011311133140 (2017) EFEKTIVITAS HAND SANITIZER YANG MENGANDUNG ALKOHOL TERDENATURASI 69.4% SEBAGAI ANTISEPTIK.
