This malocclusion arises due to genetic factors or bad habits such as thumb sucking habit. Purpose: To describe several kinds of removable orthodontic appliances that can be used for the treatment of Class II malocclusions. Literature review: Removable orthodontic appliance has the simpler ability to treat malocclusion than fixed appliance. This appliance can be chosen for treating dental disorders if the abnormalities of teeth are not too complex with the the dental arch still in normal circumstances. Functional appliances can be used to correct malocclusion by utilizing the forces generated by the muscles. On Class II malocclusion, these appliance can promote the growth of mandible forward. This appliance affects both orofacial muscles and dentoalveolar development. Activator, twin block, bionator, and Frankel appliance are functional appliances . In Class II malocclusion, muscle activity depends on the design of the appliance, but primarily used to put the mandible downward and forward. Conclusion: Functional appliances such as activators, bionator, twin blocks and Frankel appliance can be used to correct Class II malocclusion.
