This observative cross-sectional Study was performed in the clinic of the Department of Conservative Dentistry Faculty of Dentistry Airlangga University. Thirty cases of class VI composite restorations which were restored and finished on the anterior teeth of the thirty patients in the period of September 1998 to December 1999 were used in this study. The assesment of the success or the failure of the restorations was performed based on the presence of secondary caries or restorative fractured found on each observed case using caries detector. The data was analyzed using Chi-square test in 95% level of significance. The results showed that the proportion between the success and the failure was 66%: 34% and there was a statistically significant differences between the expected success (95%) and the observed success (66%). The impression gained in this study was the rate of success of class VI composite restorations in the clinic might be unsatisfactory. The continuing evaluation using more precise experimental design is still needed to support this impression.
