Patient with schizophrenia often have incoherent construction, new word formation, unfinished word formation and some interrupted utterances which affected their syntactic complexity. Thus their syntactical and semantical function can be completely incomprehensible to the listener. This research aims to investigate the syntactic complexity produced by Indonesian schizophrenic outpatients in Puskesmas Jetak, Tuban using syntactic feature which focus on type of sentences (simple sentence, complex sentence, compound sentence, and compound-complex sentence) and type of clauses (independent clause and dependent clause) purposed by Vetto (2006). Qualitative approach is used in this study to obtain the data by recording the outpatients utterances. The result of this study shows that the occurrence of type of sentences and type of clauses in female patient reached 46 occurrences (18 types of sentences and 28 types of clauses) from the total 202 data. The type of sentences in female patient is dominated by simple sentences and the type of clauses is dominated by independent clause. Furthermore, While in male patient, it reached 139 occurrences (53 types of sentences and 91 of types of clauses) from the total 175 data. Related to their comprehensibility through the grammatical units of structure, the female patient utterances dominated by incomplete sentences reach 91.6%. Afterwards, the male patient utterances also dominated by incomplete sentences reach 70.9%. It means that both Indonesian schizophrenic outpatients utterances is syntactically not complex since it dominated by simple sentences and independent clauses and it lack of comprehensibility since the utterance dominated by incomplete sentences which result in the occurrence of ill-formed sentences. 2018 Thesis NonPeerReviewed text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/75345/1/FS%20BE%20167-18%20Pra%20s%20ABSTRAK.pdf text en http://repository.unair.ac.id/75345/2/FS%20BE%20167-18%20Pra%20s.pdf FEBBY NATAZA INDAH IKA PRATIWI, 121411231035 (2018) SYNTACTIC COMPLEXITY UTTERED BY TWO INDONESIAN SCHIZOPHRENIC OUTPATIENTS IN PUSKESMAS JETAK, TUBAN, JAWA TIMUR, INDONESIA.
