Description
Summary:Background: Earlyor preschool age can be defined as a vulnerable age for children because, during this period of age, children go through the beginning of their developments. Child development is a process of developing their behavior, mental, physical, and psychological. One of the factors that influencea child’s development is their family because the familyis thefirst closest environment that can affect the child's development process or child’s psychology. In 2015, study about early detection of children's psychological problems using the Multidimensional Students’ Life Satisfaction Scale by Huebner (2001) showed a total of 15.58% of children had satisfaction in the very low category, 5.19% in the low category, 44.15% in the medium category, and 35.06% in the high category. That meant there were still children who had very low abilities that could be relied on by several factors in the house. This condition must be solved immediately because children who had very difficult quality were worried that it would be difficult to adapt to an increasingly complex environment in the past (Suryanto, 2015). Method: This study aimed to examine the relationship between parenting styles and psychology of children aged 4 to 5 in Aisiyah Kindergarten Kertajaya Surabaya. This study wasan observational study with cross-sectionaldesign. The sample was obtained from 26 mothers and fathers at Aisiyah Kindergarten Kertajaya Surabayain June 2018. The dependent variable was the parent’s parenting method. This study used the Indonesian version ofRaden Irawati Ismail Questionnaire and Strenghth and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ) as data collection instruments. Result:The result showed that there was no relationship between parenting styles and psychology of children aged 4 to 5 in Aisiyah Kindergarten Kertajaya Surabaya (p=0,193). This was because child’s psychology was not only influenced by parenting style but could also be influenced by other factors such as the environment and peers. Conclusion: There was no relationship between parenting styles and psychology of children aged 4 to 5 in Aisiyah Kindergarten Kertajaya Surabaya.
