Summary:Caring, a person's concern holistically based on empathy and compassion in the healing process is a core value of nursing. Personal mastery is a form of self-mastery to develop himself personally and professionally. This study was aimed to determine the relationship of personal mastery with caring behavior of nurses. Method: The research design was descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The population of the study were the nurses and the patients at the Inpatient Installation RSU Haji Surabaya and RSI Jemursari. The sample size were 136 nurses and 136 patients based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sampling technique used purposive sampling with the proportioned area. Dependent variable was personal mastery and independent variable was caring behavior. Data were analyzed using Spearman rho with p<0.05. Results: As much as 65.4% caregivers behaved caring and 46.3% have high personal mastery. Personal mastery was associated with caring behavior, where the better the personal mastery the better caring behaviors were shown with p:0.000 and correlation r:0.613. Discussion: The highest dimension of personal mastery is self awareness, and the lowest dimension is autonomy. Factors that can be related to personal mastery such as: personal factors, environment, organization, training and development, and education level. The highest percentage of caratif factor from caring behavior is promoting interpersonal teaching-learning and the lowest factor is using problem solving caring process. The next researcher is sugessted to make the application of treatment that can improve the personality of carp and person caring behaviors.
