Summary: | Introduction: Young adults with HIV and AIDS as one of the groups that posses
high risk of it. Unfavorable perception in young adult can affect stressor received
by people living with HIV and can exacerbate stress experienced by people living
with HIV, so that body immunity decreases that people living with HIV get easily
infected by HIV. The purpose of this study was to examine factors related to the
perceptions of young adult suffering from HIV and AIDS and the prevention of
opportunistic infections in peer support groups. Method: This research uses
descriptive analytic design with cross sectional approach The population
observed in this study is young adults with HIV and AIDS in the Mahameru Peer
Support Group Surabaya. The sample of this research is 42 respondents selected
using purposive sampling technique. Independent variable in this research is
perception of people living with HIV which includes perception of susceptibility,
perception of seriousness, perception of advantages, perception of obstacles,
perception of confidence, and perception of threat. Dependent variable in this
research is attitude of prevention of opportunistic infection. The data for this was
collected using questionnaires and analyzed using Spearman Rank Correlation
test with significance of <0.05. Result: The results obtained in this study by
Spearman Rank Correlation test are as the following: perception of susceptibility
is (p=0,000; r=-0,525); perception of seriousness is (p=0,037, r=0.323);
perception of advantages is (p=0,000, r=-0.670); perception of obstacles is
(p=0,000, r=0.633); perception of self-confidence is (p=0,000, r=0.898); and
perception of threat is (p = 0,000; r = 0.947). Analyze and Discussion:
Perceptions of susceptibility, seriousness, advantages, obstacles, confidence, and
threats associated with opportunistic infection prevention attitudes and
perceptions of threats are the dominant factors associated with opportunistic
infection prevention attitudes in this study. The next research is expected to be
able to develop this research by involving more respondents and providing an indepth
education about AIDS so that the attitudes of people living with HIV on
prevention of opportunistic infections can be better than before. |
