Description
Summary:This study investigates the keywords in Khaled Hosseini’s novels The Kite Runner (KR) and And the Mountain Echoed (AME). KR tells about a man who tried to make amends for his mistakes to his childhood friend, who turned out to be his half-brother. AME is about brother and sister who were separated from each other and tried to carry on their life without the presence of each other. The general idea of both novel which is about separation and reunion leads to this investigation. The main focus of this study is on the identification of the top 50 noun keywords of each novel. The keywords are obtained through an online corpus tool, Termostat Web 3.0. The keywords of The Kite Runner are grouped into 15 semantic domains, whereas And the Mountain Echoed are grouped into 14 semantic domains by observing the relationship between a keyword and the context in which it occurs. Furthermore, the semantic domains of both novels are compared to each other, in order to reveal the similar and different semantic domains. The result of comparison showed that similar domains indicate the style of Khaled Hosseini’s writing, while the different domains showed the theme of the novel.
