THE EFFECT OF STANDARDIZED POMEGRANATE EXTRACT (Punica granatum L.) WITH 40%ELLAGIC ACID GIVEN TOPICALLY ON THE DEEP SECOND DEGREE SKIN BURN OF WHITE RAT (Rattus norvegicus) STRAIN WISTAR ON THE NUMBER OF FIBROBLAST

Summary: | The purpose of this study was to know the effect of standardized extract
pomegranate with 40% ellagic acid as topical treatment for skin burn. The
measured parameters were fibroblast in hematoxylin eosin stain and 100x
magnification. This research used twenty five male white rat strain wistar. The
treatment was given one minutes after the treatment of second degree burn and
twice a day for 14 days. There were five treatments with five repetitions in each
treatment. Those five treatments were, T0 (base ointment with combination of
PEG), T1 (SSD 1%), T2, T3, and T4 that are SPE with increase concentration i.e.
2.5%, 5%, and 10%. The research design used Complete Randomized Design.
The data was analysed with Analysis of Variance Statistic Method and would be
analysed further using Duncan’s Multiple Range Test if there were any significant
differences among the treatments. The result showed that there was significant
difference (p<0.05) in the number of fibroblast. The conclusion was standardized
pomegranate extract with 40% EA can be used as treatment for deep second
degree burn in skin and the effective concentration was 10% (T4). |
