Summary:Introduction: Indications of antiviral therapy given by the clinician to chronic hepatitis B patients at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital isn’t known with certainty whether it’s suitable with the chronic hepatitis B therapeutic indications algorithm of Indonesian Liver Research Association (PPHI). Objective: To evaluate the indications of antiviral therapy among chronic hepatitis B patients at department of Internal Medicine Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya. Methods: This is a descriptive retrospective study and was performed by evaluating medical record of chronic hepatitis B patients. Result: The study showed that of a total of 458 patients of chronic hepatitis B during 2017, there were 172 patients who got antiviral therapy. Among those patients who got antiviral therapy, there were 151 patients who have 3 laboratory result for therapy indication criteria. Chronic hepatitis B patients who got antiviral therapy was common in male with 139 patients (80,8%), mostly in the 35-44 age group with 39 patients (22,7%) and majority live in Surabaya with 113 patients (65,7%). Based on laboratory examination data, there were 157 patients (91,3%) who have positive HBeAg status, 165 patients (96%) who have HBV DNA score ≥ 2x104 IU/mL, and 153 patients (89%) who have ALT >2x normal upper limit score. The comparison showed that 134 (77,9%) patients who got suitability antiviral therapy according to the 2012 PPHI guidelines. Conclusion: It can be conclude that the clinical practician Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya still adheres to the chronic hepatitis B guidelines.
