Summary:The aim of this research was to compare the effect of Apis dorsata honey based on total number of osteoblast and osteoclast cell on ovariohysterectomized rat (Rattus norvegicus). The sample used 60 female rats adapted for 7 days in cluster cage and divide randomly into 5 groups of treatment with 3 times of repetition (SO, OH, M1, M2, M3). SO was a sham-operated group which the rats were non ovariohysterectomized and received aquadest. OH was an ovariohysterectomized group which the rats were ovariohysterectomized and received aquadest. M1 (1g/kg BW), M2 (2g/kg BW) and M3 (4g/kg BW) was ovaryohysterectomized groups which the rats were ovaryohysterectomized and received honey solution of Apis dorsata. The Honey was diluted in 1.5 ml aquadest and given orally for 1st, 2nd and 3rd months. At 1st, 2nd, and 3rd months the rats were euthanized and th 5th of lumbar vertebrae was taken with necroption technique. Osteoblast and osteoclast cell were calculated using optilab microscope. The result showed the total number of osteoblast and osteoclast cells was significantly different (p<0.05) between OH group and all the group. The lowest was on OH group at every 1st, 2nd, and 3rd months of observation. The result of the lowest osteoclast number is on M2 group and highest on OH group.
