Based on habitat and food, they have the potential to transmit zoonosis and have a high possibility of being infested by parasites. One of the possible disease that could infect water monitor and transmitted to human is acanthocephaliasis, infection from Acanthocephalan. Which previous research found Acanthocephala on intestine of frog. This study was conducted to identify the presence of Acanthocephala on water monitor lizard (Varanus salvator) in Sidoarjo. Total of 40 samples were taken and was identified in Laboratory of Parasitology, Universitas Airlangga by Semichen-Acetic Carmine staining method and observed with lucida microscope. Based on the results there were 2 positive samples of Acanthocephala on the body cavity of water monitor, which is it still immature. |
