Summary: | This study presents a study of the manufacture of human bone screw
through conventional processes including machining and forging. Bone screw used
in the process of fixation of bone fractures or cracks. The lack of quantity and
quality of the implant at Indonesia that encourage researchers to conduct a study of
human bone screw manufacturing. The comparison of local products manufactured
with imported products cortical bone screw type will be analyzed in this study.
In this study, the design type of the bone screw that used for bone fixation
on the cortical bone region. Cortical bone screw in according to ASTM F543-07
standard types of cortical screws that included in the classification of type HA type,
spherical undersurface head, shallow, asymmetric buttres thread, and deep head
screw. Materials which used in the manufacture of cortical bone screw was 316L
stainless steel in which the machining process using conventional lathes and for
forging process based on technology of small and medium enterprise. Comparative
analysis of cortical bone screw that produced by the machining and forging process
than a foreign product AO (Swiss) have been done by mechanical testing and micro
structures testing.
Analysis of studies have obtained that bone screw with local materials can
be produced by conventional machining methods. The results shown that the ratio
of bone screw similarity level above 90% for the hardness rates of the bone screw
head, while the value of the resulting surface roughness Ra ratio were not much
different in the allowable interval. The bone screw manufacturing process have
been affected by machining conditions such as depth of cut, threads per inch, the
cutting angle and cutting tools. Comparison of microstructure and SEM test shown
that products manufactured by researchers although overall was almost similar
such as grain size and geometry of the bone screw, the bones screw still need more
improvement. |
