Summary:Background: The problem of eating disorder is common nowadays, especially among teenagers. In Indonesia national data on eating behavior is unavailable but the result of some studies indicates that there is a problem of eating behavior in Indonesia. The number of female teenagers on weight loss diet at Jayapura Municipality has been increasing in the past two years, from 8.66% in 2010 to 8.2% in 2011 (January to June). Objective: To find out association between environmental factor, body image and weight loss diet in female senior high school teenagers at District of Abepura, Jayapura Municipality. Method: The study was observational with cross sectional and case control study design. It was undertaken in all senior high schools at District of Abepura, Jayapura Municipality. Samples consisted of 361 for cross sectional design and 95 for case control design. Collected data comprised identity of respondents, anthropometry, role of environmental factor (famillies, friends, and media) in body image, role of body image to weight loss diet. Research instruments were questionnaire, microtoise, and scale. Data were analyzed using chi square test.
