Summary:The aim of study is to explain the symbolic domination of Karaeng in Jeneponto Regency . This writing is based on several reasons: Firstly, the issue of Karaeng dominination is still less studied in sociology. Secondly, Karaeng as the top class of traditional stratification in Jeneponto has a powerful desire that is never extinguished. Thirdly, karaeng as a part of tradition is still retained in the middle of current decentralization and liberal democratization that are occurring in Indonesia after the new order collapsed. These reasons enforce the study on Karaeng more deeply since the fact shows that the power of Karaeng notices in various domains. This position is stronger in social and political life in Jeneponto District. Therefore, this research tries to answer the questions as follow: How does strategy of Karaeng toward power symbolic domination in jeneponto? Due to answer these questions, the Pierre Bourdieu�s concepts of on domination from, Symbolic domination of Pierre Bourdieu in viewing the interaction of power in Jeneponto by using existing resources. The Concept has benefited the Karaeng to describe the social affairs in Jeneponto district. The findings explained that the Karaeng dominates social and political spheres because of: first, mastering the mythical knowledge on Tumanurung by possessing of Lontaraq. Second, having economy base (capital) that controlling on the land and money manifestation. Third, the political government base in terms of political cephalopods such as distribution of official position or the top position, kinship network collusion (KKN). Fourth, the strong tradition of Karaeng (cultural) that is manipulated for dominating, and finally, society consent to accept and involve relatively in the discourse of Karaeng and his power. Therefore, the Karaeng has the influential power in local democratization in Jeneponto. This means that the influence will persuade the process of current social changes in long terms. This condition is different to historical process of industrializing the western countries through the process of rationalizing and modernization that imposes easily the democratization process. The power of Karaeng , in turns, will be persistent in the middle age of globalization and market bureaucratization that are still need to be assessed.
