Description
Summary:The purpose of this study is to analyze the position of the United States (US) as an external actor in the conflict and peacebuilding in Nicaragua during Sandinista government. This Study used a library research method, through analysis of various books, documents, journals, and internet sites. The Author argue that the reason US invaded Nicaragua because it feels threatened by the power struggle activities that Sandinista did. Through its Monroe Doctrine US will consider all of foreign forces which present and pursue it interest in the American Continent as a threat to US security and peace. Sandinista transform process start from only a small community in university, until able to overthrow the corrupt Somoza regime also known as power struggle. With help of weapon and military training from Soviet Union, Cuba and other Axis Countries, the source of threat perceived by US give the greater security dilemma. US then do a security struggle as a response against Nicaragua by issuing a foreign policy which basically aims to eliminate the threat. The Losses that suffered by US in the Vietnam war, makes it very difficult for the government to hold an open war in Nicaragua, which will off course be opposed by the whole nation. Through its president at that time Ronald Reagan, US launched a strategy of low intensity warfare, or indirectly war by intervene the civil war between Sandinistas and Contras. It also answers the question why the US is in fact, as an aggressive country did not hold an open war in Nicaragua. Not quite up there, to ensure that the Sandinistas no longer in power, US also intervene in the peacebuilding process ini Nicaragua, via two vital processes in the implementation of that peacebuilding, which are the political and economic liberalization.
